The World Trade Center Marking Its 30th Birthday
Column: Business

“The World Trade Center (WTC) is constantly broadening the spectrum of its activity,” said its general director, V.M. Serov, at a meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps in Moscow on May 20. He expressed a readiness to organize interesting and promising joint undertakings.
Since its inception, when presidents L. Brezhnev and R. Nixon, gave the “green light” to the first International business center in the USSR, it has organized more than 9,000 functions in which presidents, Russian and foreign ministers, governors, men of science and culture and businessmen took part.
Today the WTC leases its premises to about 600 big firms. It plans to commission new buildings in the near future. The diplomats present at the meeting were told about commercial proposals to build new objects, including a 29-storey office building, a hotel with more than 200 rooms and a car park. This fall the Congress-center with its 26 halls will be reconstructed and modernized.
The development strategy of the WTC envisages the creation of international trade centers in Russia’s regions – Saransk and Krasnodar.
On behalf of the foreign guests, the ambassador of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Melrose Beyoh Kai-Banya, thanked the hosts for a pleasant and useful meeting.
