Moscow Honors the Memory of President Heydar Aliyev
Column: Embassy Life



On May 14, there was an official evening devoted to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Azerbaijan’s first president, H.A. Aliyev, in the Hall of Columns. The government of Russia, the Moscow Mayor’s office, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the ITAR-TASS news agency, and the Embassy of Azerbaijan were the organizers of the event. S.Ye. Naryshkin, the head of the Administration of the President of the RF, D.R. Pollyeva, the aid to the President of the RF, Ramiz Mekhtiyev, the head of the Administration of the president of Azerbaijan, L.I. Shvetsova, first deputy mayor of Moscow, A.I. Denisov, first deputy foreign minister of Russia, V.N. Ignatenko, the general director of ITAR-TASS, Polad Bulbul oglu, the ambassador of Azerbaijan, as well as the heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of the Russian public and the Azerbaijani community took part in the evening.
Opening the evening, L.I. Shvetsova told about the interesting life path and the multifaceted work of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev. S.Ye. Naryshkin emphasized that all those gathered there had come to pay tribute to Heydar Aliyev, whom Russia rightly considered and considers an outstanding statesman. “For many decades, Heydar Aliyev held top government posts in the Soviet Union. His name is connected with the building of strategic partnership ties between Russia and Azerbaijan. Today, H.A. Aliyev’s work is worthily being carried on by his son, President of Azerbaijan I.H. Aliyev,” S.Ye. Naryshkin noted.
Polad Bulbul oglu, the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia, thanked all the organizers of the official evening and noted that the great statesman and politician of modern times is equally dear to both Azerbaijanis and Russians.
The official part of the evening was followed by a concert featuring well-known Russian and Azerbaijani performers. In the lobby of the Hall of Columns there was a photo exhibition retracing Hydar Aliyev’s life.
